CUNA Reports New Card Activation Phish Attempt

CUNA, Credit Union National Association, is being used as the subject of a phishing message that is targeting credit union members nationally.  The new phishing-scam attempt informs recipients about "irregular check card activity" and advises them to call a toll-free number to get restrictions removed.

The fake email message is as follows:

"CUNA Alert: Irregular Check Card Activity"

"We detected irregular activity on check card on Oct 25/2007. For your protection, you must reactivate your card. Call us immediately at (fake phone number).  We will review the activity on your account with you and upon verification, we will remove any restrictions placed on your account.:

"Please disregard this notice if you have already accessed the website or spoken with on of our representatives."

If you've received this email, DO NOT call the number listed or follow any links in the email.  If you are unsure about any emails, feel you have been affected by this scam or your personal data has been compromised, please contact SAFE's call center immediately at (916) 979-7233 or (800) 733-7233.
