SMISHING ALERT- SAFECASH TEXT MESSAGE

It has come to our attention several of our members have received fraudulent text messages. See a sample below.

You are now approved to borrow $1500 for your expenses at WWW.SAFECASH1500.COM - Its safe, secure, and transfers the same day. Respond NO to cancel

This is a fraudulent Text!!! It was not sent by SAFE. Do NOT click on any of the links.

Be aware that Smishing texts frequently have attachments and/or links to Web pages that host malicious code and software. Do not open attachments or follow Web links in unsolicited texts from unknown parties or from parties with whom you do not normally communicate, or that appear to be known but are suspicious or otherwise unusual.

SAFE Credit Union or any other financial institution will never ask a member to provide, verify or update their personal, account or financial information via Text Messages. This includes: Social Security Number, passwords, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN), or ATM, Credit or Debit Card numbers. If you receive text message requesting such information, do not respond and never click on a link contained in a suspicious text message.

US-CERT collects phishing email messages and web site locations in order to help people avoid becoming victims of phishing scams.
