SAFE Credit Union Donates $20,000 to Local Organizations for Big Day of Giving 2017

FOLSOM, Calif. – May 3, 2017 – Today, SAFE Credit Union announced that it will donate $20,000 on Big Day of Giving 2017, with funds benefiting six local nonprofit organizations, including the American Heart Association (Sacramento Division), First Tee of Sacramento, Natomas Arts and Education Foundation, Sacramento Stand Down Association, and the United Way California Capital Region.

“We often say that SAFE was founded on the notion of people helping people,” said Dave Roughton, president and CEO of SAFE. “While supporting local organizations all year long is part of this philosophy, we felt it was important to do our part on the Big Day of Giving to help the organizations that enrich the lives of our members, as well as their friends and family.”

SAFE closed 2016, having provided $300,000 in community donations, 9,800 volunteer hours, and having presented over 200 financial literacy workshops across the region.

Organized by Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Big Day of Giving is a local initiative to increase philanthropy across the region. The program has raised more than $16 million for hundreds of local nonprofits since 2013. The goal for 2017 is to exceed last year’s impressive total of $7.1 million.

SAFE encourages its members – and all Greater Sacramento residents – to visit bigdayofgiving.org tomorrow, between midnight and midnight, to donate to the local nonprofit of their choice. More than 600 organizations that help make our capital region so multifaceted and distinctive are participating in this philanthropic event.
