SAFE celebrates grand opening of SAFE Credit Union Convention Center

FOLSOM, Calif. (June 3, 2021) – Today SAFE Credit Union leaders joined representatives from the city of Sacramento and California to celebrate the grand opening of the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in the heart of Downtown Sacramento.

The Convention Center is one of the three facilities in the SAFE Credit Union Convention & Performing Arts District. The SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center, scheduled to open with the Broadway Sacramento production of “Hamilton” in September, and the Memorial Auditorium are the other two parts of the District.

“This moment marks the culmination of the hard work of a lot of dedicated Sacramentans wanting to be the very best they can be for our region, and having tremendous persistence and resilience to make Sacramento a world-class city that attracts and delights people who come from all over to see what the region has to offer,” says SAFE President and CEO Dave Roughton.

SAFE entered into a 25-year commitment with the city of Sacramento to invest in the District to support the economic vitality of the region. In addition to naming rights, SAFE provides city of Sacramento employees financial wellness services through SAFE’s Workplace Financial Wellness program under the partnership with the city.

“SAFE has always focused on supporting our communities and has many opportunities to do so,” says SAFE Credit Union Board Chair Terrance Tremelling. “To see this venue open to the public and professing our commitment for 25 years is a testament to that effort in a long-term way. It is with pride that SAFE welcomes the first of many years of enjoyment and entertainment for the Sacramento Community.”

After a two-year renovation, the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center opens with additional meeting space; enhanced technology to optimize in-person and virtual events; construction that meets LEED standards; public health safety protocols; and high-speed internet and integrated Wi-Fi access.

“My hopes are that it is wildly successful from Day 1, that the pandemic is in the rearview mirror, and people throughout Sacramento will embrace and have opportunity to come into those beautiful new buildings and again enjoy the real richness of life that includes arts, entertainment, and theater,” says Roughton. “Those bring joy to so many people.”

SAFE members will be able to access special offers and access to early ticket sales for select events at the District.

“I hope that for all of our members they feel a sense of pride to be represented in this way, having our name on these beautiful buildings,” Roughton says. “We're a not-for-profit financial institution, and this ensures our community remains strong and that everyone who lives or works in our region can enjoy the arts and entertainment accessible to all.”
