We’re not just in the community—we’re part of it. Supporting our communities by lending our expertise, skills, and time sits at the heart of SAFE’s culture. Volunteerism is one of the most meaningful ways we carry forward the credit union mission of people helping people. SAFE provides employees with 16 hours of paid time each year to use to support the causes they are most passionate about. Teams often volunteer together to build camaraderie, and every year we dedicate a full month to volunteerism to deepen our collective impact in the Greater Sacramento region.
We welcome nonprofits of all kinds to share volunteer opportunities with us. Our employees can support both team based projects and smaller individual roles, making it easy for local and remote staff to get involved. Our V.A.L.O.R. (Veterans And Loved Ones Resource) Employee Resource Group leads an annual flag drive, placing collection bins at our branches, headquarters, and the Aerospace Museum of California so community members can drop off worn American flags for respectful retirement. This effort honors veterans, supports our community, and brings people together in a meaningful act of respect and service.
We invite members, employees, and neighbors to join us in supporting families across our region by donating canned goods and nonperishable items at any SAFE branch or our headquarters. These contributions go directly to local food banks, helping ensure more households have access to the food they need during the holidays and beyond.
Employees and members come together to donate new backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary, middle, and high school students served by Sacramento Children’s Home. This drive helps underserved students start the school year feeling prepared, supported, and ready to learn.
Our executive team and employees joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento during our volunteer week to build playhouses!
The playhouses will go to new Habitat homeowners and their families, allowing their children to enjoy and start their own dream for what’s next. This initiative truly supports our philanthropic pillar of Affordable Housing, and we can’t wait for the next opportunity.
