Grants are awarded four times a year, with each cycle tailored to meet evolving community needs.

Having healthy financial habits is essential to building financial freedom. Fortunately, people can develop those habits starting at any age, from childhood to retirement. SAFE Credit Union actively supports financial literacy in the community, focusing its philanthropic efforts on nonprofits in the greater Sacramento area that provide programs that promote healthy financial practices.
SAFE will award a $20,000 grant to a nonprofit that works in underserved communities to equip them with the financial education tools necessary to build secure futures.
Receiving applications January 5 - February 2, 2026.
Affordable housing is essential to ensuring an economically vibrant and healthy economy. When families spend a third or less of their monthly income on rent or mortgage payments, they have more money to save for the future and to spend on local goods and services. SAFE supports affordable housing as well as nonprofits who provide financial education services to residents to help them gain the skills they need to build financial freedom.
SAFE will proudly award one $20,000 grant to an organization whose programming provides services to residents of affordable housing that helps them thrive.
Receiving applications April 6 - May 4, 2026 .
An educated and prepared workforce is essential for a community to thrive. SAFE is committed to ensuring that people in all stages of life have the skills and knowledge they need for current and future career opportunities. A diverse and strong workforce is central to SAFE's mission of building financial freedom for our members and for the community.
SAFE will proudly grant one $20,000 grant to an organization whose programming provides workforce development training to members of underserved communities.
Receiving applications from July 6 - August 3, 2026.
Special note about this grant cycle: The recipient of this grant will be determined by a vote among SAFE members and the public conducted between August 25 - September 7, 2026 on safecu.org. A SAFE committee will determine the finalists, and the finalist with the most votes received during the voting period will receive the $20,000 grant.
SAFE strongly believes in the power of education that provides youth and young adults with the knowledge and resources necessary to navigate through adulthood and help build financial freedom.
SAFE will proudly award a $20,000 grant to an organization that supports underserved youth and/or young adults with education services and access that help lay a strong foundation for future success.
