SAFE Credit Union joins Sacramento Promise Zone to help strengthen community

FOLSOM, Calif. (June 19, 2019) – SAFE Credit Union expressed its commitment to helping at-risk communities grow and thrive by becoming a partner with the Sacramento Promise Zone, an initiative that seeks to revitalize 22 square miles of Sacramento’s most underprivileged neighborhoods.

By working with partner organizations, the Sacramento Promise Zone facilitates cross-sector collaboration to improve educational outcomes, foster a sustainable economic base, accelerate job creation, promote healthy behaviors, and support sustainable built communities.

Through its partnership with the Sacramento Promise Zone, SAFE will provide financial education opportunities for residents to help them improve their financial well-being.

“Directly helping individuals better understand how to budget and save, how to obtain a car loan or invest in their community through a home loan will help an entire community grow and thrive,” said SAFE Credit Union President and CEO Dave Roughton. “We are excited to be part of the Sacramento Promise Zone. We see it as an integral part of our mission to improve the health and well-being of our neighbors.”

Sacramento Promise Zone Director Tyrone Roderick Williams said that the collective partnership with SAFE and other Sacramento area corporations and organizations “marks a turning point for us because it is the largest corporate investment the Promise Zone has received. What’s unique about this partnership is that we who stand as part of this promise are committed to action. We are committed to implementation. We studied enough to know the challenges happening in our neighborhood. This is a cross-sector collaboration committed to implementation.”
