ICYMI: Broadcast Features Preschoolers Fin Ed Visit to Antelope Branch

Folsom, Calif. – (Feb. 27, 2024) – KCRA Channel 3 on Monday featured Play With Me Preschool preschoolers who received a hands-on lesson about money and personal banking during a field trip to SAFE Credit Union’s Antelope branch.

During the airing, SAFE Financial Educators Savannah Brown and Miriam Dougherty are shown giving the youngsters their first lessons about money before branch team members later led them on a tour that included a visit to the vault. The preschoolers then practiced visiting a teller window by signing a signature pad and withdrawing their very own $1 bill.

After receiving a Mr. SAFE piggy bank and additional favors, the preschoolers then headed over to nearby Yogurt Time to use their dollar toward a sweet treat.

According to Dougherty, it is never too early to introduce children to the basic concepts around money, especially in a way they can easily understand and is relevant to their young minds.

“It is inspiring to witness how we can help shape their financial future by instilling healthy habits early on,” Dougherty says. “By teaching them about the importance of saving and how to know the difference between their wants and their needs, we can empower them to make wise decisions as they get older.”

SAFE Credit Union Antelope Branch Manager Brianna Watts later commented on how the field trip they have hosted for 16 years is one of her favorite volunteer events. “The kids are just adorable. They’re genuinely so interested in what we do here at SAFE,” she says. “I just love to hear about what they want to buy with their money and just to see the excitement they have when they finish the whole process.”
