We’re pleased to share that SAFE’s President and CEO, Henry Wirz, has been named the recipient of the Leo H. Shapiro Lifetime Achievement Award. This is the California Credit Union League’s highest honor, recognizing excellence in credit union philosophy and a lifetime of contributions to the California credit union movement. And, Henry won for good reason! With his leadership, our credit union and industry have made amazing strides.
When he became CEO, SAFE had 130 employees, $142 million in assets, 40,000 members, and four branches. During his 26-year tenure, the credit union has grown to $1.7 billion in assets, 21 branches, almost 150,000 members, and 420 employees.
Henry has been involved in the credit union movement at local, regional, and national levels and is very much involved with advocacy efforts in Sacramento and in Washington, D.C. He is also involved with our community, including serving on the advisory committee of the Twin Rivers School District board and as board chairman of KVIE Public Television.
