SAFE CU OFFERS FREE TAX HELP
Local credit union provides Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Sacramento, Calif. February 15, 2011 — SAFE Credit Union is offering free tax help at two local branches. SAFE’s Rancho Cordova Branch is hosting assistance for individuals and families who income-qualify, and SAFE’s West Roseville Branch is hosting tax-time assistance for seniors.
Low- to moderate-income filers can take advantage of free tax help at the Rancho Cordova Branch, located at 12519 Folsom Boulevard. SAFE is working with the Sacramento Coalition for Working Families to offer the service through trained and certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) volunteers. They will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following Saturdays: February 19th and 26th; March 5th, 19th, and 26th; and April 9th. Filers are encouraged to make an appointment, and obtain a list of documents needed in order to prepare their return, by calling the information line at 2-1-1.
Roseville area seniors, 60 years of age and older, can take advantage of this free tax help at the West Roseville Branch, located at 9055 Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard in Suite 150. SAFE is working with AARP to offer the service through trained and certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers. They will be available on Fridays through April 15th between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Seniors are encouraged to make an appointment by calling the Tax-Aide information line at (916) 774-5960. Seniors with relatively complex returns may be advised to seek a tax professional who specializes in their needs.
Walk-ins at both locations will be seen on an as-available basis. For a list of other free tax preparation sites, filers can visit the state Franchise Tax Board online at www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/vita/sites.asp.
