SAFE CU PUTS HEART INTO AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION 'GO RED' CAMPAIGN
North Highlands, Calif. May 5, 2011 – Northern California's SAFE Credit Union is helping women stay fiscally and phyiscally fit by supporting the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. The credit union's enthusiastic embrace of Go Red has helped achieve outstanding results in awareness and fundraising.
SAFE put its network of branches behind a two-month Go Red campaign. Since the launch of SAFE's Go Red for Women campaign February 1, SAFE has raised more than $20,000 for Go Red, including $10,000 through the sale of paper hearts in its 21 local branches and Call Center.
SAFE was also a cause sponsor of the Sacramento Go Red Event in April and will support the Go Red Ball in May. At the event, SAFE provided an elaborate photo booth so that participants could capture their commitment to take care of their heart health. Participants chose from a variety of red hats and fun accessories, as well as signs highlighting their pledge to stay healthy. Sisters, couples, co-workers, and friends posed for the free photos, holding signs with saying such as "I'm staying healthy for my sanity" and "I'm staying healthy for my family." SAFE also created a special Go Red section on its website, with free financial solutions for getting fiscally fit and reducing stress.
Highlighting the need for cardiovascular health among women, the Go Red campaign educates and raises research funding to prevent heart disease, which kills an estimated 450,000 women a year in the U.S. — about one woman every minute.
"At SAFE, we're committed to improving our members' total well-being," said Henry Wirz, president and CEO of SAFE. "The Go Red for Women campaign is a wonderful opportunity to share the connection between financial wellness and living a long, healthy life."
Established in 1940, SAFE Credit Union maintains assets in excess of $1.6 billion and serves more than 150,000 members through 21 branches in the greater Sacramento region. Visit SAFE online at safecu.org.
