SAFE Credit Union Hosts Congressman Ami Bera at Town Hall at Corporate Headquarters

FOLSOM, Calif. – April 26, 2017 – On Friday, April 21, Congressman Ami Bera visited SAFE Credit Union headquarters in Folsom, Calif., where he answered questions regarding both regional and national affairs impacting credit union members and employees alike. Additionally, Bera met with SAFE executives to discuss regulatory changes affecting credit unions and community banks.

The need for bipartisan cooperation in Washington D.C. and the issue of cyber security were discussed at length at both the Town Hall and executive meeting.

“One of the most critical challenges facing our country today is a threat to our national security through cyber attacks,” said Bera. “We should do more to recruit and retain our math and science graduates and incentivize them to improve security by addressing outdated and inefficient technology.”

“It was reassuring to hear that Congressman Bera continues to take cyber security very seriously, as I believe this is one of the most critical issues facing all financial institutions today,” said Dave Roughton, president and CEO of SAFE. “Protecting our members’ data is always our No. 1 priority and we actively support cross-industry initiatives that mitigate security threats.”

During the Town Hall, Bera also addressed the escalating costs of higher education and how the loss of technical programs in high school has contributed to a deficit in skilled laborers who can help rebuild the infrastructure of our state.

“The future is bright for our country, but we need to lean in and have an honest conversation about the direction of this nation,” said Bera. “I’m willing to tackle the elephant in the room, collaborate across the aisle, and lead vibrant debates that will move California forward.”
