SAFE Credit Union Members Get Paid Days Earlier with Early Payday Benefit

Folsom, Calif. (Feb. 22,2024) – Just in time for tax season, SAFE Credit Union members can now receive their paychecks and federal tax returns through direct deposit days earlier than before thanks to a new benefit offered by the credit union.

The new Early Payday benefit – provided at no cost automatically to all members with direct deposit linked to their SAFE accounts – provides members access to their deposits days earlier. Directly deposited employer paychecks now clear up to two days in advance. Government benefit payments and federal tax refunds also directly deposited now clear up to five days earlier.

“We are so pleased to bring this new benefit to our members,” says SAFE Credit Union Senior Vice President Member Services and Operations Gina Olson. “No longer will members face confusion and frustration seeing deposits pending in their checking and savings accounts. Members now can access their money as soon as we receive it.”

Among SAFE’s 236,000 members, more than half currently use direct deposit. SAFE is launching an outreach campaign to ensure members are aware of the new benefit and invite them to consider signing up for direct deposit before tax season.

“Getting a paycheck or federal government benefit payment a few days early can make a difference to so many of our members,” Olson says. “Especially for those managing tight budgets between paydays, having access to this money a few days earlier will make a huge impact on paying bills on time and accessing money to buy essentials.”

Olson says she is thankful to be a part of providing members with access to their tax refunds so much more quickly. “We expect to see a lot of members happy about getting their refunds faster this year and in the future, and so am I,” she says.
