SAFE Credit Union to award $10,000 in scholarships

SAFE Credit Union is seeking outstanding teens for scholarship opportunities. As part of SAFE's annual scholarship program, 10 college-bound high school seniors will each be awarded $1,000 this spring.

SAFE's scholarship program began in 2001, and the credit union's support of local education has since grown to include title sponsorship of the Sacramento County Academic Decathlon, on-campus student-run branches, internship programs, and youth financial literacy workshops. “At SAFE, we believe investing in education helps to strengthen the very foundation of our communities,” said SAFE CEO Henry Wirz. “We’re committed to helping our next generation of leaders, inventors, and visionaries develop and enhance their skills so they may enjoy bright and prosperous futures.”

This year, recipients will be chosen based on their exceptional grade point average, financial need, community involvement, and letters of recommendation, as well as a personal statement. SAFE scholarships are awarded annually to students who live or attend school in Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, Yuba, Sutter, Amador, Butte, Contra Costa, Nevada, San Joaquin, Solano, or El Dorado counties. SAFE membership is not required to apply. The program highlights SAFE's dedication to the community. “We want to help students invest in their education,” said Wirz. “Their knowledge and passion can make an impact in the communities in which they will live, work, and volunteer.”

The application package for 2016 is available online at safecu.org and at all SAFE branches. Interested students may also call (916) 979-7233 or (800) SEE-SAFE.

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 7, 2016 and addressed to:
